Experiencing traditions and cultural has always been on my priority list. I am often attracted to places and things of historical importance or those that have a story around it or a legacy behind it. India is a land where stories have been a source of teaching and educating the masses about the importance of a place or thing. There are innumerable heritage properties, palaces and Havelis bearing testimony to our culturally rich land. Some of these structures have witnessed the eras of the emperors and a few have served the nobility. Whether one is travelling to Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh or Kerala, palaces, Havelis, summer palaces, bungalows etc. can be easily found here.
The awareness to conserve and restore such heritage properties has also increased in the past few years. People have realized the importance of valuing and conserving the rich heritage that has been passed on through generations to them. I am quite happy with these efforts not only help to restore the old buildings but also give chance for enthusiasts like us to experience them.
I have always fantasised to live like a princess and often wish I was born in a royal family to enjoy such luxuries. I also know this dream can’t be fulfilled in this lifetime but the only thing I could enjoy in this lifetime is the hospitality of these heritage properties for a few days. I am taking you to a tour of one such property today- Fairmont Hotel, Jaipur.
The iconic Fairmont Hotel is located in the middle of Majestic mountain range of Aravalli. With Mughal and Rajasthani Architectural style along with Persian artworks and enticing chandeliers.
It’s just not a hotel, it builds in such a way that I felt like I’m entering in a palace. The rustic look of the entrance, along with a huge gate and Royal welcome with Flower shower. It made my day. Fairmont Jaipur is truly a royal destination. Built in the tradition of the region’s grand Mughal palaces, this majestic hotel offers the best in modern amenities and is perfectly complemented with the rich heritage of Rajasthan in the design and attention to detail on display in each of the 199 guest rooms. All rooms and suites are meticulously decorated, featuring timber doors, private foyers, vaulted ceilings, and a minimum of 51 square metres of space as well as such modern conveniences as large soaker tubs, lush bed linens, 40” plasma televisions, and wireless high-speed Internet access.
PROs
- Check in-It was very amicable and hassle free process. The Staff and concierge were well behaved and very helpful. I was royally escorted till my room.
- I loved the Royal welcome with Flower shower along with the live singing by a folk artist from Rajasthan.
- The location is perfect away from the hustle bustle of the city.
- The bathroom was bigger than the bedroom, I liked the double door entrance to the bathroom.
- The bath tub was huge and separate from the standing shower. I liked it.
- I checked in majestic Premium Rooms. It was a pool facing room on the 2nd floor. It was very aesthetically done. The walls of the room were decorated with the big size wall art, a perfect blend of the heritage & modernity.
- The room was equipped with flat screen LCD TV and a mini bar.
- The breakfast was complimentary and full of the verity of food.
- The service was prompt-attentive, hospitable and friendly.
CONs
- They had provided a luxurious earthen bathtub but without bubble bath gel and some fresh flower prattles I did not enjoy my bath up to fullest.
- There was only 1 power outlet on the bedside table but it was taken up by lights. There should be more charging points available. It would be more convenient for a digital traveller like me.
- You need to have more days on hand to enjoy this property more.
- The lights of the bathroom were not enough for vanity purpose.
Food:
It was the occasion of the celebration of Nowruz – The Persian New Year. The Fairmont has organised a Food Festival to Celebrating the Forgotten Recipes of Persia at their magnificent restaurant-Zarin.
Zarin, the sole Indo-Persian fine dining destination in the country recreates a culinary art that has, over centuries, celebrated the fusion of two of the most ancient cuisines in Asia. Serving as a resilient cultural marker within the royal courts of the ‘persianised’ Delhi Sultanate in the early 13th century, Indo-Persian cuisine celebrated the symbolic unification of India and Persia; one that began along the ancient fêted Spice Root, leaving an interminable impression that has influenced, even, our modern-day palates.
Menu Highlights:
Iranian Biryani, served along with matzoon and salad
A symphony of fragrant Basmati rice and choice of meat or vegetables, this dish has turned many a king into a dervishing poet
Tabriz Koftey
From the town of Tabriz in Iran comes this stuffed chicken dumpling filled with nuts and spices bathed in a mild onion broth
Kasare Pukhtan
Softened paneer dumplings simmered in a smooth aromatic yellow pumpkin and onion gravy
Iranian Haleem
A thick, pasty wheat porridge that combines the heartiness of grains with flavorful meat proteins or vegetables
Mahi Zameen doz
Fresh-off-the-nets fish marinated in aromatic Persian spices which is gently grilled and then baked to perfection
Overall The Fairmont Hotel was the perfect location for a luxury stay in Jaipur. The staff I can’t forget were extremely helpful and courteous from the moment we stepped inside and did everything to make us comfortable. It was indeed an experience that would stay in my memory for a long time.
