Property review 1559 AD restaurant
1559 AD is a restaurant situated in the heart of Lake City Udaipur between Fateh Sagar lake & Swaroop Sagar lake. It is a favourite hangout place among foreign tourists. I spent my morning hours near Fateh Sagar lake. I visited Nehru Park in the middle of the lake. I took a boat ride to reach that place. There are so many sports activities near the lake. I was tired and wanted to take some rest in a good place. So I decided to have an early lunch. I took an auto rickshaw and reached 1559 AD restaurant.
As I entered the place I was welcomed by a magnificent setting, a blissful lush green lawn and an indo gothic architectural building. A perfect blend of heritage and modernity. It was an old mansion converted into a fine dine restaurant.
While entering the property I saw a logo of the restaurant. It was captivating. It made me think about that unusual name of the restaurant- 1559 AD. What does it means? Must be having some story behind. I asked from the restaurant manager about relevance of an unusual name. He shared some very interesting story. Let me share it with you as well. 1559 AD was the historical year when Maharana Udai Singhji founded the city of Udaipur. Therefore the property owner decided to come up with such a place where guest can enjoy the bygone era experience and the old world hospitality under one roof. So they bought an old Haveli & converted it into the restaurant.
In fact I would agree with them. The old structural building has two big dining halls, 1 coffee shop and 1 bar. If you want to enjoy sitting in the verandah there are tables available. Since it’s an all-day dining place you can enjoy food any time. But I would suggest that this place is best for the evenings. Sitting arrangements in the lawn with live music and barbeque can make your evening memorable.
The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. I had the chicken sticks cooked with spices and sauce as starter with my fresh lime mojito. It were exquisite. The main course consisted of a Laal maas, kher sangri accompanied by garlic bread, which really thrilled me. The flavours of Rajasthan were awesome. It all was followed by a delicious apple pie served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. I would say it was the best apple pie I ever had.
All the dishes were very yummy and had the warmth of Rajasthani cuisine. The service was very good. The staff was very attentive and helpful.
I had a pleasant dining experience with food of the most exquisite flavours. For all the visitor I highly recommend 1559 AD restaurant in Udaipur.
Till we meet next with a new property review.
